Item Description
This very large scale antique stone crest features the Royal Coat of Arms for the City of Bath, where it was originally fitted to a local authority building.
Motto of British monarchs; Dieu et mon droit (‘God and my right hand’ )
Motto of the Order of the Garter; Honi soit qui mal y pense (‘Evil to him who evil thinks')
Good structural condition. Old flakey paint and minor weathering, losses and small historic repairs. This crest has previously been subject to a £20,000 restoration. When removed from its original setting it was restored and mounted on a custom made steel backing plate, which will allow secure mounting to a wall, or hanging from a chain. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor Losses, scuffs, and scratches.
