Item Description
A striking pair of antique Copeland tiles depicting classical scenes, displayed in beautiful gilt frames.
Expertly hand painted, these ceramic 8 inch tiles showcase a male musician playing a lute and a classical lady singing from her songbook.
Dating to circa 1890, these 8-inch tiles are mounted in two modern gilt frames, each frame housing two tiles, to be used as wall decor.
Whether decorative or collector’s pieces, these illustrated Copeland tiles are a beautiful addition to any home.
Copeland
Copeland & Garrett made encaustic decorative and floor tiles, copying medieval designs but not using traditional colours.
From 1847, the business relationship between founders William Taylor Copeland and Thomas Garrett ended and Copeland produced alone, until his sons joined to create W. T. Copeland & Sons Ltd in 1867.
They received world-wide recognition for their jug stands, vases, ceramic tableware and fine tiles, such as this pair.
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. There are no condition issues of any kind to mention. Each modelled as two tiles within frame.
