Item Description
Paul Day (b. 1967) portrait plaster bust of a male. This renowned artist is one of the leading sculptors in Britain today. His series of human heads are recognised by the reflections carved into the sunglasses of his subjects and made from bronze, but this bust is something different. Its eyes are on full display showing a realistic stare, while it captures the artistic flare of Day. Thought to be a maquette - a model for a larger piece of sculpture, created to visualise how it might look and to work out approaches and materials for how it might be made - this bust may have been part of a larger project. His signature can be found etched into the piece’s back - reading PJ Day. It is thought to have been carefully crafted in 2000.
