Item Description
This Victorian acid etched glazed door is a beautiful internal door for a kitchen, sunroom or conservatory. It is artistically glazed with acid etched details depicting a cherub or putto above a winged lion among scrolls and swags of foliage. Made from pine, this antique door has an original finish, featuring smart raised and fielded panels to both the front and the back.
Often found in Victorian properties and listed buildings, acid etching – or French embossing – is a specialist, time-honoured technique developed in the mid 1800s. The process involves applying glass with a coating which is then etched with a decorative design and exposed to acid. This exposure corrodes the glass, creating variances of texture and tone. This results in a highly decorative and artistic finish that brings elegance and beauty to any setting.
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. Original stained finish. No cracks. Small knocks and abrasions. If desired, this door could be reduced in height by trimming at the base.
