Item Description
A strong figurative work by Glasgow artist Anda Paterson, centred on a tightly packed group of demonstrators.
Paterson was drawn repeatedly to crowds, workers, outsiders and ordinary people, and this has all of that energy. Loose ink-like lines, thin washes of colour and a mass of faces that almost merge into one another.
Born in Glasgow in 1935, Paterson studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1952–58, where her tutors included David Donaldson, Mary Armour and Benno Schotz. She later co-founded the Glasgow Group and remained closely involved with it for decades. She also taught in Glasgow schools; one of her pupils was Douglas Gordon.
