A Superb example of 'Black Forest ' carving , made in Geneva Switzerland in the late 19th Century. (The 'Black Forest' genre title
although coming from an earlier epoch in southern Germany- the best black forest pieces were actually made in Switzerland in the late 19th century,))
The St.Bernard Rescue Dog is one of the most sought after pieces in the genre and this is an very beautiful example. The piece is an 'Epergne' vase stand though the vase now missing. (I will search for a suitable vase ongoing but with a beautiful example the price will certainly increase)
Carved from a single piece of limewood. Made in Geneva c. 1875-1900 In very good condition Measures 12 inches tall x 8 x 5
