Fine Original Pair of mid/late 19th Century 'Tolework' Tea Canisters made by Bartletts of Bristol , with gilded & Gesso decorations depicting Chinese Warriors and with their original brass makers' plaques on the reverse sides.
'The fine pair of Canisters are in their original condition and were bought by me some years ago as part of a larger set from an old Tea Room in Bridgewater Somerset, called( from memory) 'The Steyning Farm Tea Shop'.
Bartletts of Bristol were well known shopfitters in the late 19th- early 20th century who employed lacquer workers ( known as 'Japanners') specialising in ornamental Toleware.
Measuring 18.5 inches tall x 10 wide each, ( 47 x 25 cms) In reasonably good natural condition with some wear and imperfections from their age and usage in a Tea Room !
