Item Description
Rare 'Bombé' shaped tolework triple compartment coffee caddy with three separately opening mahogany wooden lids which came from a high class grocery store in Victorian England.
With its original makers plaque on the reverse saying 'Parnall & Sons.... Bristol' (see photo) and slightly worn gilded front lettering 'COFFEE', this is a unique and rare relic of the late Victorian age and the Japanners (or 'Toleworkers') craft.
Another enamel plaque attached to the top front of the lid states 'Parnall & Co, Narrow Wine Street, Bristol'.
The Caddy is not only a wonderful 'Statement Piece' but still very useable for storing coffee beans in a modern kitchen.
Measures 25" long x 11" deep x 14" high (36 x 64 x 28 cms). In good condition with some surface wear and imperfections from age and usage. Made in England Circa 1860- 1890.
