Item Description
Very Decorative Pair of 19th-Century Oak and Woven Leather Armchairs
A very handsome pair of late 19th-century Carolean revival oak and woven leather carver armchairs, combining strong architectural presence with great decorative appeal. Each chair features a rectangular woven leather lattice back, secured with brass studwork and set above a row of turned spindle gallery. The generous seat, also in woven leather lattice within a studded frame, is complemented by beautifully carved, shaped downswept scrolling arms on turned supports. The chairs stand on turned legs united by square stretchers and terminating in bun feet, with a wonderfully decorative, country-house feel.
All the leather is original, in excellent condition, and retains a rich, supple appearance. The oak frames display striking grain, warm colour and a pleasing, mellow patina, the whole set in very good original order with no damage or repairs.
These armchairs would sit beautifully in a hallway, library, sitting room or study, where they offer both comfort and visual impact. Highly decorative yet robust and functional, they make a real focal point and a characterful addition to any traditional or contemporary interior. Seat height is 46 cm.
