Item Description

A Superb Regency Period Mahogany Cheval Dressing Mirror

A magnificent and highly impressive early 19th-century Regency period cheval dressing mirror, crafted in superb quality, richly figured solid Cuban mahogany and retaining its original mirror plate.
The cross grain moulded frame is supported between exceptionally elegant turned and spiral reeded uprights with solid reeded intersections, showcasing the very finest cabinetmaking of the period. The original mirror plate displays only slight, attractive foxing, entirely consistent with a plate of this age and adding to its authentic character. The mirror frame is held by finely turned supports with original finials to the top, wooden knob side adjusters and a turned stretcher below, leading to beautifully shaped splayed supports on finely cast brass hairy paw castors. To the reverse, the mirror retains its original mahogany panelled back, a clear indication of its superior construction and quality.
Flanking the mirror is a pair of original ormolu swinging candle arms, adding both practical lighting and refined decorative appeal. The whole stands on four sweeping sabre splayed legs, united by turned stretchers and terminating in the original brass castors, giving the piece great presence and elegance.
In very good condition for its age, this cheval mirror is of stable construction and ready to place directly into a home. It boasts a deep, rich patina developed over two centuries, underlining both its quality and careful preservation.
This Regency period cheval mirror is not only a superb example of early 19th-century English craftsmanship, but also a distinguished statement piece, perfect for a refined bedroom, dressing room or any elegant interior seeking a classic focal point.
