Item Description
An early 19th?century William IV solid mahogany tall open library bookcase, with fully adjustable shelves to both the upper and lower sections and carved roundel decoration, and of particularly good depth. England, circa 1830.
The bookcase is constructed in separate elements – including the moulded cornice, top, lower section, and plinth – allowing it to be taken apart for easier access through properties where space or access may be restricted.
The solid mahogany has developed a rich, warm patina, further enhancing its visual appeal and attesting to its superb original condition and careful stewardship over the years. William IV pedestal bookcases are celebrated for their imposing yet elegant design, often using dense, high?quality mahogany, and this example is no exception.
In terms of condition, this open library bookcase is in excellent original order, boasting a deep, lustrous patina that speaks to the quality of its craftsmanship and the care it has received. The figured mahogany is particularly attractive, giving the piece a refined presence.
Overall, this bookcase is not only a testament to exceptional early 19th?century craftsmanship but also a striking example of classic William IV design, making it an ideal focal point for any sophisticated library or refined interior.
