Item Description

An incredible reverse etched and painted French telephone mirror. c.1920

A characterful fragment of early 20th‑century French street life, this reverse‑painted Téléphone glass panel once marked the location of a public telephone - likely in a kiosk, hotel corridor, or café vestibule. Its gilded lettering and decorative flourishes were designed to catch the eye, offering a touch of elegance to an everyday utility.

The thick mirror plate-glass itself is original, with beautifully aged silvering, areas of flaked paint, and the soft, mottled patina that only decades of service can produce. The frame is a later addition, chosen simply to give the panel a clean, practical way to hang without distracting from the sign itself.

A very rare survivor and real collectors piece.
