English, circa 1660-1745
These boxes are frequently dated to the mid 17th century; however this one is inscribed to the base, 'Charles Bawden July 27 1745' one is kept wondering about the relevance of the day and the date and if it is contemporary or added at a later date. Bawden being a Celtic name that is often associated with Cornwall.
