Tobia Scarpa, born in Venice in 1935, is one of the defining figures of post-war Italian design. The son of the legendary architect Carlo Scarpa, Tobia developed his own design vocabulary in close collaboration with his wife Afra Scarpa, producing furniture, lighting, and objects for the most prestigious Italian manufacturers — among them Cassina, B&B Italia, and Flos. His work is characterised by a Venetian refinement of detail, rigorous attention to material logic, and an instinct for the sculptural that distinguishes it from mere industrial functionalism.
