They depict "Moretti" (Moorish or Nubian pages), richly dressed in Oriental attire: plumed turbans, fitted cuirasses, draped short tunics, and buskins. Each figure adopts a slight contrapposto stance, raising a cornucopia-shaped torchiere (serving as a candle cup or sconce) in one hand and supporting a small shallow dish in the other. The execution relies on sculptural work (carved wood or stuccoed composition) covered with rich polychromy contrasting with significant gilded and silvered highlights applied to the clothing and bases.

This suite is rooted in the strict tradition of Venetian decorative statuary. Since the 17th century, the "Moretto" figure has been a great classic of the palaces of the Serenissima, symbolizing the wealth of Venice's trade with the East. In the mid-20th century, this iconographic repertoire experienced a massive resurgence of interest driven by the Hollywood Regency movement, which reintegrated these ceremonial figures into luxurious and eclectic interiors. Gathering four distinct pieces (featuring symmetrical plays in posture) traditionally allowed for the delineation of space, framing a majestic centerpiece or a grand hallway enfilade.

Condition report: Good overall condition. The polychromy and gilding display an embraced patina of use, with small losses of lacquer, slight craquelure, and normal rubbing for this type of artisanal finish.
