A particularly charming small-scale British sporting picture combining the movement of a coaching scene with the decorative appeal of an Edwardian country landscape.
Rideout depicts two chestnut horses travelling at pace along a pale country road. Behind them is a smart four-wheeled carriage occupied by a coachman, a lady in pink and a gentleman wearing a black top hat.

The strong horizontal format creates a natural sense of travel.
The horses occupy the foreground and are connected to the carriage through carefully observed harness and reins. Yellow-spoked wheels enliven the darker carriage body, while the pink costume of the female passenger introduces a further decorative highlight.
Behind the group is an attractive rural landscape of mature trees, greenery and distant buildings.
