Item Description
A superb large folk art diorama of the three masted barque Glynllifon c.1900. Shown under a full spread of sail and flying the Union Jack and various signal flags. On a modelled sea with painted sailboat and paddle steamer on the horizon. Presented behind glass in a fine birdseye maple veneered frame with gilded slip. Excellent condition.
The Glynllifon (named after the large estate and house near Caernarfon in North Wales) was a merchant ship involved in the copper and phosphate trade from the Americas. She sailed from Coosaw River South Carolina in January 1879 but neither the ship or the 11 crew were ever seen again.
