Item Description
Very useful late 19th.c. steel safe or strong box by the makers Cartwright & Sons of West Bromwich c.1890. Three inch thick door opening with the original key, internal dimensions 12.5" x 10" x 16.5". plus a small lockable drawer in the base. Splendid large embossed brass plate on the front of the door featuring the company’s registered trademark (dated 1840) with a phoenix rising from the flames (these safes were designed to be fireproof). Brass handle and keyhole and original paintwork to the exterior and interior. Original polychrome label inside the door. Some wear to the paintwork, generally very good functional condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied for the door and drawer.
