Engineers workbench.
English 1930’s.
Very attractive early 20th century scratch built industrial workbench in original condition.
The black/very dark natural oil finish with extensive wear through to the timber is especially good. The exposed warm timber along the top, drawer edges and legs gives it a nice untouched industrial timeworn patina.
The pressed metal cup handles are consistent with workshop and utility furniture from the late Victorian through inter-war period. Similar antique cabinetmaker’s benches commonly combine drawers and cupboards beneath a substantial working surface. Surviving historic benches were also frequently altered and added to throughout their working lives, so irregular construction is actually quite characteristic.
Ticking all the boxes of primitive furniture, vernacular furniture and industrial antiques.
