Item Description
The beautiful carved pink siena marble column or plinth at four feet high, the cylindrical body on a step rimmed composition socle base and surviving from the last quarter of the nineteenth century and Grand Tour Italy.
The column is very heavy indeed being solid marble and therefore could be used for any form of sculpture. There are some losses to the rim at the base as photographed and a historic loss to the top rim.
This type of column would be best utilised for busts, urns and statuary, being particularly suited to neoclassical pieces, and metallic or stoneware items. Siena pink marble is a type of pink marble often used for decorative purposes, known for its unique colour and veining. It's a natural stone that adds elegance and sophistication to spaces.
A top-drawer quality piece that is a must have staple for any country house interior worth its salt.
