Item Description
The sizeable and varied collection of seventeen mixed sized photograph strut frames, including twelve rectangular frames, most with ribbon-tied cresting, all with easel supports; together with five photograph frames, two circular examples, one oval, one square, and one rectangular, all with ribbon or foliate cresting, one watercolour and three bearing old photographs, the group surviving from the zeniths of the nineteenth century.
The condition of each frame is good. One of the makers is Walter Jones of 185/6 Sloane St, South West London who was one of the most notable of the period.
Within the collection there is a portrait miniature in watercolour, a child in a pierrot clown outfit and a family of six children with the message ‘wishing you a happy Christmas’. Left vacant they frames are incredibly evocative of what was, or may yet be.
Very powerful as a group, this haunting collection would work wonderfully well up a staircase.
