From the Commencement of Christianity to the present Time. By John Fox. Revised, Corrected & Improved by the Revd. W. Gregory.
This revered tome by John Foxe is a monumental historical and theological work chronicling the lives, testimonies, and often brutal deaths of faithful Christians who suffered for the sake of the gospel. This newly formatted edition presents Books I through IV, tracing a sweeping narrative of the Church's persecution from the apostolic age to the pre-Reformation centuries. These first 500 pages offer more than a record of martyrdom—they are a deeply moving portrait of Christian courage, steadfastness, and the enduring power of truth in the face of tyranny. Gabriel Rosetti is known to have quoted from and owned this particular edition of this book.
A fascinating and macabre book that has decorative appeal due to its lofty size.
