Item Description
Large 1970s Sculptural Brass Bird Table Lamp
A fabulous and impressively large 1970s sculptural table lamp, featuring a beautifully stylised bird in flight, crafted in highly polished brass and mounted upon a substantial high-gloss black circular plinth.
This is a much larger and more imposing lamp than it appears in photographs, with a wonderful scale and presence that makes it a true statement piece.
The fluid, almost abstract form captures the bird in motion, with sweeping wings and an elongated body creating a dramatic sculptural silhouette. A slender curved brass stem rises organically from the sculpture to support the generously proportioned shade.
Very much a piece where lighting and sculpture become one, the polished brass takes on a beautiful warmth when illuminated and contrasts wonderfully against the glossy black base.
The design is strongly reminiscent of the sculptural lighting of French designer Philippe Jean, whose work explored similar abstract avian forms. As no signature has been located on this example, we are offering it in the manner of Philippe Jean, rather than making a firm attribution.
An exceptionally decorative and substantial statement lamp, equally impressive illuminated or displayed as a piece of sculpture.
Electrical details:
The lamp has been professionally rewired with a fabric-covered flex cable and fitted with an in-line switch. Takes 1 × E27 light bulb.
