Item Description
Large Turkmen Chuval Cushion. This impressive, oversized statement bolster cushion has been newly crafted in-house from an authentic antique Central Asian textile. The face was originally a late 19th or early 20th-century Turkmen Chuval (or Juval)—a large, hand-knotted wool storage sack woven by semi-nomadic Tekke or Yomut tribes to secure valuables inside their tents or during camel migrations.
The rich madder-red surface features repeating geometric gul medallions, which traditionally served as tribal coat of arms. It has been finished with a high-quality, complementary new backing and generously stuffed with a luxurious, heavy wool interior insert.
Condition: Good antique condition overall. Please note there are two distinct areas of historic pile wear, measuring approximately 8cm x 5cm and 4cm x 5cm respectively.
