Item Description
A late Qing Dynasty pair of hardwood yoke-back armchairs, with swept crest rails and tripartite panelled back splats hand-carved with pierced decoration, set over out-swept arms and framed panel seats, above attractively shaped and incised front aprons, all raised on square-section legs united by stretchers.
Displaying the commanding visual stature characteristic of late 19th-century Chinese furniture, this pair offers a distinctively striking sculptural presence. They serve as exceptional statement pieces when positioned symmetrically in a spacious entrance hall, a formal drawing room or flanking a library hearth.
Very good antique condition, retaining a rich, layered historic dark lacquer finish with rich ruby undertones, stable craquelure and honest wear. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
Chinese, circa 1890.
