Circa 1880. A late 19th century Victorian carved walnut stationery box, with an engraved brass plate ‘Philip Son & Nephew Liverpool’, and the lock is stamped ‘Bramah London’. The top hinges are vertical and the front falls forward and then hinges open again to a leather-covered writing surface. The top writing surface has a brass catch and handle and lifts to reveal a storage area, the action of the front falling forward allows the ink well and pen storage area to spring forward. Above the inkwells are three drawers with brass handles and their original leather lining. The main body of the box is compartmentalised to hold stationery, envelopes, pamphlets. In the centre are two walnut-edged ceramic note boards held in brass brackets. To the underside of the lid is a leather pen and ruler holder, the exterior is carved and has two heavy-quality brass carrying handles.
