Item Description
Circa 1950. An Impressive pair of carved mahogany Chippendale-design, Gainsborough style armchairs (also known as a Martha Washington chair in the United States). The ivory-coloured upholstery with crewel embroidery, in very good condition. With a sloped back and partially upholstered shaped arms on an acanthus-carved shaped support above a generous overstuffed seat. Supported on crisply carved cabriole legs with acanthus and scrolled carved knees and scrolled toes, (unusually) on the back as well as front of chair.
