Item Description
An unusual late 18th Century mahogany library armchair, with fluted top rail and central rosette, above sets of pierced carved splats, repeating the sides, supporting shaped arms, with green upholstered drop in seat, all raised on square legs with original brass castors and joined by stretchers. Circa 1780. In good original condition.

Attributed to Robert Manwaring, see Robert Manwaring’s The Cabinet and Chairmaker’s Real Friend and Companion, or The Whole System of Chair Making Made Plain and Easy’, Henry Wembley, London, 1765, pl.13, for a ‘Gothick’ chair design comparable.
