Item Description
This decorative oil on canvas was painted in May 1938 by Daisy Radcliffe Beresford in The Hall Studio - just a few minutes walk from our Showroom in London NW8.
This friendly looking older gentleman was Mr Deputy Charles Newell CC, Lieutenancy City of London and past Chairman, Guildhall Library.
Lovely detail on the bold uniform and the colours are good. A little wear, but generally in good condition for the painting's age.

Daisy Radcliffe Beresford (née Clague) studied at Heatherley's School of art and the Royal Academy Schools where she won 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Her focus was in portraits, landscapes and interiors and exhibited regularly from 1904-1938, including the Royal Academy where she exhibited 12 paintings. In 1910, she married Frank Ernest Beresford, a fellow student at the RA Schools and an official war artist.
They had two daughters, Averil and also Vivian who later became the sculptor Vivian Bartholomew. The Beresfords lived at 28 Grove End Road, St John's Wood, London.
