An Important 1970s French Hollywood Regency "Cobra" Mixed-Metal Sculptural Coffee Table by Isabelle Faure for Maison Honoré Paris.
An absolute masterpiece of late 20th-century decorative art, this coffee table blends the lines between high-end furniture and functional fine sculpture. Crafted in France during the height of the 1970s brutalist-luxury movement, this iconic design stands as a vivid testament to the lavishness, bold color contrasts, and theatrical organic curves that defined the legendary Maison Honoré style.
Formed from heavy, hand-welded metal, the base depicts a strikingly realistic cobra coiled and poised to strike. Its meticulously twisted tail forms an engineered, perfectly stable platform to support the heavy orignal glass surface above.
The serpent’s body features a highly decorative, alternating mosaic of premium metals, combining polished brass, rich copper, warm bronze, and masterfully welded pewter joints. This rich mixture offers an exquisite, warm golden-brown color scheme that catches the light from every angle, it's head is set with green glass eyes.
Hidden under the open throat of the cobra's hooded head is a subtle light socket. When switched on, the table projects a dramatic downlight that highlights the hand-textured metalwork below and glows softly through the glass top.
