Item Description
An 18th Century Italian Rosewood and Walnut Commode with Marble Top and Ebony Detail.
This commode was made in Piedmont towards the end of the 18th century in a style influenced by French Louis XVI pieces. It is of rectangular form with tapering square sectioned legs and ormolu toes, with quality ormolu also being used for the floral and Vitruvian scroll patterned original drawer pulls and swagged escutcheon plates. The original marble top has yellow and cream tones. Walnut is used to create the parquetry decoration on the body of the commode with rosewood crossbanding creating the darker tones and the sides are finished in the same way as the front. It has two drawers of equal size.
Intense workmanship has gone into creating this commode.
