Item Description
19th Century English Regency Painted Cane Seat Settee with Original Paint and Decoration.
This elegant settee embodies the English Regency style, which was highly influenced by Neoclassicism and ancient Greek and Roman motifs. The frame is constructed of wood (likely beechwood) and features an off-white or cream painted finish, accented with refined gilt decoration. This combination was a hallmark of the period. It has a distinct open backrest composed of three vertical sections. Each section showcases a delicate, geometric crossed trellis pattern below an ornate central cartouche motif. The settee is a three-seater bench with gently outswept arms. It stands on slender, turned, and tapering legs. It has a single, thick loose seat cushion.
