Item Description
A 19th Century Regency Rosewood Library Table with Ivory Inlay.
This beautiful table would have been the height of luxury in the regency period when it was made. Supported on two end supports of hourglass shape, there are turned ivory paterae and inlaid ivory used throughout, including on the scrolls of the feet. The turned central stretcher, the frieze, the drawer fronts and top of the piece are inlaid with ivory in the form of geometric decoration. The corners have fleur de lys designs and it also has a gilt brass moulding applied around the bottom of the frieze.
The rosewood is of the highest quality and of outstanding colour. A table of this quality would have been beyond the reach of all but the wealthiest of clients at the time that it was made. No expense has been spared in its design, construction and ornamentation.
