Item Description
A rare and highly unusual Victorian mahogany specimen desk by J. Mountford, Bradford Street, Birmingham, beautifully crafted as a single-piece freestanding form with exceptional practicality and character.
The desk features a new hand-dyed green leather writing surface with elegant gold-tooled edging, perfectly complementing the rich mahogany throughout. Above 2 frieze drawers, with knob handles.
The ingenious design includes central drawers accessible from both sides, making it ideal as a centre-room desk, together with two pull-out writing slides for additional workspace.
Raised on finely turned legs with brass and ceramic casters, the desk also retains its working locks and key.
The panelled cupboard base provides further storage.
