Item Description
A silky oak side cabinet designed by Betty Joel and made by W V Irwin at Token Works. Dated 1931.
The label bears Betty Joel’s signature alongside that of the cabinet maker.
Wonderfully handmade in solid Australian silky oak. The cabinet has an inset glass top above an open compartment, with a two‑door cupboard below.
In very good original condition, showing a few light marks in places. The glass inset is a later replacement.
Betty Joel (1894–1985) was a British designer whose furniture from the 1920s and 1930s is now recognised for its clarity, craftsmanship and modern sensibility. Working under the Token Hand-Made Furniture label, which she established with her husband David Joel, she produced well‑proportioned pieces that bridged the gap between Art Deco and early Modernism.
Additional dimensions information:
The cupboard space is 26cm high. The open compartments are 20cm and 23cm high respectively.
Delivery included to mainland England, Wales and southern Scotland.
