Item Description
A lovely Art Nouveau rosewood and brass inlaid small casket box by Erhard & Söhne, Germany. Circa 1900-10.
This dome shaped hinge-lidded box is beautifully crafted in solid rosewood, with intricate brass inlay and sinuous brass side brackets. Note the heart shaped detail. The interior is lined in the original mustard yellow velvet cord fabric.
The box is extremely secure when closed, and requires a little pressure to open. You may wish to leave the lid unfastened, resting on the catches, as shown in photograph number 4, which also looks aesthetically very pleasing.
In excellent original condition, the box has been lightly waxed. There is no damage. One of the sides has mellowed slightly in colour.
Unsigned, Erhard & Sohne was granted the world patent for the manufacture of brass inlay in 1904.
