Item Description
An interesting antique folding fruitwood and canvas chair with royal and military interest. Used at the Smith's Lawn in Windsor in 1915, Queen Mary's camp. London Silver hallmarked plaque.
Delivery included in the purchase price to the UK.
Smith’s Lawn is a notable area within Windsor Great Park, renowned for hosting prestigious polo events such as the Queen’s Cup and the Cartier International Day. During World War I, Smith’s Lawn served as a military camp. This area has a long tradition of royal connections and has been part of the history of Windsor Great Park.
The chair is made of cherry wood with plywood slats which have a central tulip pierced decoration. The wood has the original patina and the canvas is also original, showing signs of use to the fabric. The studs to the side of the seat have been replaced with larger examples, as there was some wear to one side.
There is no damage to the frame, but due to the design of this chair there is movement to the joints and some creaking. It is however usable.
Additional dimensions information:
The arm heights are 68.5cm. The seat height is 48cm and the inside seat width is 43cm.
