Item Description
Stunning pair of early 20th century decorative Chinese black lacquered gilt & polychrome painted bench seats. Republican Period - Circa 1920-30.
Delivery included to mainland England or Wales.
Hand painted with dragons, being a legendary mythological symbol, and set amongst scenic foliage. The edgings having geometric symbols. The seats have motifs of bats and carp. The backs also boast details, so they do not have to be set against a wall. The whole decorated with gilt highlights. Each seat having two scrolls to the back, standing on square moulded legs with shaped brackets.
There are some signs of use, with some rubbing to the arms and seats, and differences to the lacquer in places. There are numerous knocks and some losses, which are mainly photographed. Some earlier touch up paint to the knocks is present. The benches are sturdy with no loose joints. Very usable.
