Item Description
Oil painting by Anthony Gross RA
I think this is the sort of painting that might fall into the ‘important early work’ category. Anthony Gross is a well-known painter and printmaker whose etchings have always enjoyed a keen following. This punchy splash of colour was painted at the dawn of his career, fresh from the Slade in 1923 and two years before his first solo show. He was travelling in the Pyrenees, and this is probably Seo de Urgel in Spain. This would almost certainly have been sold through Deighton’s Strand Gallery here he was then on a retainer and expenses for a regular supply of paintings.
It is currently available to view and buy in our Cecil Court Branch in London. If you would like to try it on approval within the M25 please do, otherwise come and visit us in the gallery - we have several hundred of our paintings on display and several thousand in stock!
