Designed by the acclaimed Robert Heritage for the quality British maker Archie Shine the Planar range comprised a number of pieces . It wasn’t a great commercial success at the time , probably because it was too radical and also the British economy was struggling and taxes were rising for the wealthier customer who had far less to spend . The Planar range in teak or rosewood often on die-cast aluminium bases included 2 variants on this design as well as being available without legs to hang on a wall . It could be bought with 4 drawers with a fully veneered top or with a fitted electric hotplate and black laminate top . The wall cabinets also came in 2 sizes . This is the first time we’ve had the 4 drawer console as opposed to the version with a hotplate .

Archie Shine was known in the furniture trade for using the best best veneers with good figuring which presumably came at a cost as his furniture was expensive when new . This set in rosewood .

The console table didn’t always come with the aluminium supports and didn’t in this case so we’ve had iron ones made which can be painted to blend in to your decor so that it looks to be floating . The hanging cabinet hangs on a horizontal wood bar like the metal supports has to be screwed into a loadbearing wall .

Condition
Fully cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or damage . As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely .

Notes
The Planar range included a dining table and chairs as well as cabinets on wheels which could sit under the console table neatly . Presumably as an alternative to a traditional sideboard .
