John Herbert designed some lovely ranges for the quality maker A Younger , and this floating range from circa 1960 is one of our favourites . We spend time on research and finding original catalogues and have a large collection but Younger brochures are really hard to find . Many were just made for a year or two and all were expensive at the time so sold in fairly small numbers at a time when they were one of the premium makers in Britain .

French walnut doesn’t actually exist as a wood as all European walnuts are the same , but A Younger used the term to differentiate their pieces with those made using more showy veneers often with heavy varnished finishes . Younger used a much more subtle cut which has a satin type finish with a natural glow and an oiled finish .

This was originally a dressing table and we do have the mirror available if wanted , but it makes a lovely low sideboard . We have the matching 122cm ( 4ft ) tall chest shown in a couple of the photos which we have had once before , but this is the first time we’ve had this model before . The tall chest is listed separately .

So far we have 1964, 65 , 66 and 68 , but this model predates them so as yet we don’t know the range name but it will be named after a famous hotel as all their bedroom ranges were at the time .

Condition
Cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or scratches but as with all vintage pieces you do have to expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely .
