Item Description
Rare group of Cecil Aldin cut out hunting figures
Cecil Aldin ( 1870-1935 ) was a highly successful artist and illustrator best known for his hunting scenes many of which were turned into coloured prints to be sold to a wider market. These lovely hand painted plywood cut out figures rarely come up for sale. We could only find a single one on a Google search. None of ours are labelled, but the lady hunting figure we found was labelled Cecil Aldin Productions with a London address. They’d have been expensive when new, and mustn’t have sold in large numbers.
Cecil Aldin was at his peak around 1900-1915, and we assume that these will date to that period, or if not the early 1920’s.
We have 4 of the larger figures on horseback, plus some miniature ones along with a quantity of hounds. As well as the ones shown in the photos we have a few others with some breakages. We also have their original flat square white cardboard boxes which they presumably came in.
As you’ll see they have metal supports so that they can be made into a tableau grouping.
Larger figures 23cms high and 28cms long
Condition
Some old glued repairs if you look closely. We’ve only shown the ones that are in good vintage condition.
