Vintage Full-Length Yellow Floral Chintz Country House Curtains By GP & J Baker

LARGE PAIR OF FULL LENGTH INTERLINED CURTAINS

We have two of these sets available to purchase individually, the price quoted is per set.

Hand-sewn floral cotton chintz fabric, a pale mellow-yellow background with floral depictions that include butterflies in the chinoiserie taste. Each set consists of a pair of curtains with a matching pelmet fringed in green cotton. The curtains work equally well with or without the pelmet.

The fabric was designed and manufactured by GP & J Baker Ltd. Established in 1884 the company have a rich history, are still thriving today and are renowned for their quality. They received the Royal Warrant for the late Queen Elizabeth II and currently hold it for the current reign of King Charles III supplying furnishing fabrics and wall coverings to the Royal Households.

Probably dating from the late 20th Century period. Circa 1980s.

The curtains are well-made and heavy, backed with full-length cotton lining and fleece interlined. They both have curtain heading strips ready to hang.

They are in very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including some small, subtle marks that are only noticeable on close inspection but not really when hung. They are free from any tears, holes or serious issues . As you might expect the edges have some sun fading and the cotton backing fabric has some watermarks from window condensation.

Approximate measurements:

Total length - 338cm / 133“. Laid flat, each curtain is 136cm / 53 ½ “ wide at the base. The tops are currently gathered and measure roughly 106cm / 41 ½ “ each. So when hanging, the total width of both with the pleated tops is roughly 212cm / 83 ½ ”. The pleat could potentially be adjusted for a wider window.

The optional pelmet measures approximately 226cm / 89” wide at the pleated top. Again this could be adjusted for a wider window.
