Item Description
A late 18th-century French faience plate from Nevers, decorated with a peacock surrounded by small shrubs, in a vibrant palette of blue, green, yellow and manganese. The edge is delicately shaped, the lip featuring small floral ornaments. The feathers of the peacock are rendered in fine, pattern-like brushwork, the colourful fullness of the detail contrasting with the off-white ground, while characterful touches, from the beak and small feathers to the peacock's expression, lend the piece provincial charm.
A rare, charming Nevers plate, in very good condition and unrestored.

- Slight wear throughout, commensurate with age. A glaze defect to the lip, otherwise very good condition.
