Item Description
An 18th-century French faience bottle from Nevers, decorated in blue and white. The rounded body features two country landscapes in rectangular reserves, with high-pitched houses surrounded by trees, bushes and birds. The reserves are framed by lively foliate patterns, while the sides, upper portion and neck are adorned with scrolls, dashes and geometric motifs.
The bottle features a distinctive sculptural form, with four handles on the sides and a narrow neck. Characterful details include the high-pitched roofs framed within the reserves, round windows and tall chimneys, while fine line drawing in manganese contrasts beautifully with painterly blue brushwork.
A rare bottle with charming pastoral scenes and elegant blue and white palette.
