K0574 An exceptional Victorian giltwood overmantle mirror, presenting a beautifully preserved example of late-19th-century craftsmanship. The piece features its original foxed mirror plate, housed within a moulded and gilded frame. The frame is richly ornamented with reeded columns, acanthus leaves, elegant floral scrolls, a classic Greek key band, and a striking egg-and-dart cornice, all framed by a delicate beaded outer edge. This antique mirror retains its original gilding, exhibiting a wonderfully mellow, authentic patina. The gently foxed glass lends an atmospheric character and visual depth that is highly coveted by designers and collectors alike. The reverse retains its original panelled backboards, which enclose historical newspapers dated 1899 and come pre-fitted with wall brackets. The structure is solid, stable, and completely free of woodworm, with all intricate decorative elements fully intact and secure.
