Item Description

A decorative pair of plates from a 19th century edition of Owen Jones, The Grammar of Ornament. Housed in a matching pair of period ebonised and gilt slipped framed.

Age related discolouration and browning to the plates,

Owen Jones (1809 1874) was a British architect. A versatile architect and designer, he was also one of the most influential design theorists of the nineteenth century. He helped pioneer modern colour theory, and his theories on flat patterning and ornament still resonate with contemporary designers today. Published in 1856 The Grammar of Ornament is considered his longest lasting legacy.
