Item Description
A characterful Parisien canine collar, likely late 19th century, made from substantial black leather with triple rows of domed brass studs and robust brass mounts. The front carries a shaped brass nameplate engraved: “MR HUMBERT , VILLA MAFALDA , 11 RUE DES ROCHERS, CLAMART,” placing it in the Paris area. At the centre sits a substantial wrought‑iron ring for a lead or leash, showing honest oxidation. The slotted brass terminal, brass keeper and buckle plate are all hand‑riveted, and the leather shows hand‑stitched edging to the interior. Presents beautifully as a piece of social and sporting history. Interestingly house mentioned on the name plate still stands and is visible on Google Earth. Condition is good for age with attractive wear: surface marks to brass from polishing and use, light verdigris in places, rubbing to leather edges. The hardware remains sound. Dimensions approx.: length 59 cm; band width 3.75 cm.
