Item Description
A wonderful, atmospheric oil painting by the often-imitated but never-equaled Bernie Fuchs. Capturing the pre-race excitement along with the ensuing hustle and bustle of the betting ring. The bookmaker is depicted on his pitch with his tic-tac man behind, relaying the odds via traditional hand signals. The painting has a lovely depth and composition, with the various characters nicely captured by the artist. A rare painting from one of his visits to England, it comes with excellent provenance. The third-to-last image shows President John F. Kennedy posing for Bernie Fuchs at The White House. The second to last and final picture shows three items – mainly promotional catalogues/pamphlets – that came with and will be sold with the painting. Measurements given are for the framed size.
