Item Description
Recently I went to the South of France where I discovered this exceptional and large antique French tapestry that dates from the early 17th century. Once it graced the interior of a noble castle close to Bordeaux, I was told. This is a hand woven aubusson tapestry that measures approximately 300 x 250 cm or approximately 118 x 98 inches depicting birds within a majestic forest with an open view of a castle in a distance. During its impressive existence of 400 year or more, the original colours most certainly changed. Yet some colours are still truly exquisite - as in this case - especially the shades of blue and earthy tones. This gives it such captivating appeal today that would look just marvellous in any stylish and unique interior. The tapestry has metal rings on its back which make it easy to be displayed on a wall. It is exactly as I discovered it, with some signs of ageing which is expected of such ancient treasures. This in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today, like no other.
